Atsushi Karaki is Manager of IHI Corporation space development division. IHI Corporation is one of the leading companies in Japan for aero-engines & space system, industrial machines, power station plant and other facilities, bridges and other transport-related machinery. IHI established in 1853 as shipyard. IHI merged its ship building unit to JMU(Japan Marine United) in 2012,Atsushi Karaki experienced over 25 years of space development system engineering (Satellite payload, International Space Station, Rocket project). He is focusing on the SAT-AIS application and service development for the past few years.

Ayumu Hirosawa started his career in TST Corporation as a VHF radio operator in Yokohama port harbor information center, engaged in operations of radio communication with vessels and ship reporting service to port users for 2 years. Now he is in charge of ship data sales, suggesting our data services or web services to the governments, shipping companies and logistics companies etc. His wish is to integrate global ship tracking information to our local service and introduce to our maritime users in Japan.

Egbert Schwarz

Egbert Schwarz is team leader at the Maritime Security Lab in Neustrelitz. Since 2002 he has been involved in several earth observation ground segment projects. He was acting as integration and test Engineer during the implementation of the TerraSAR-X ground segment. Since 2008 he is working on the implementation of near real time services i.e. the ship-detection service and oil spill detection.

Gerd Eiden is Head of LuxSpace Application and Service Department at LuxSpace. He graduated from the Trier University with an MSc and PhD in Applied Remote Sensing. Since 2008 he is involved in the SAT-AIS activities of LuxSpace, focusing on the SAT-AIS application and service development.

Dr Jukka-Pekka Jalkanen is responsible for Ship Traffic Emission Assessment Model (STEAM) development at the Finnish Meteorological Institute. He is one of the key experts concerning annual ship emission reporting in the Baltic Sea area. Dr Jalkanen is also involved in the national task force regarding maritime policy and has had a contribution to NOx Emission Control Area application preparation of both the North Sea and the Baltic Sea countries.

Julian Longson

Julian is the Director – Business Development of Pole Star Global. He graduated from the UK’s Cranfield Institute of Technology with an MSc in Applied Remote Sensing. Julian’s career to-date has consisted of 26 years in the geospatial business with a range of international organisations and private firms based in Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

He has been with Pole Star since the company’s formation in 1998 and was formative in the commercial shipping sector’s adoption of ship tracking as a common technology service. At the international regulatory level, Julian has for the last 11 years provided key expert industry support during the IMO’s development of the Ship Security Alert System and Long Range Identification and Tracking regulations.

Lennart is an expert in marine meteorology for worldwide shipping with more than 20 years’ experience in various positions including several years as the Operational Manager of the SMHI Weather Routing team at the Swedish Meteorological Institute. Mark has 19 years experience of maritime intelligence and 23 years experience of Information technology specialising in database and internet systems. Mark has been Head of Data Projects for Lloyds List Intelligence since 2003 and, among other projects, leads the development of the Lloyd’s List Intelligence global AIS network. Mark’s focus is on capturing, processing and providing maritime data services to both web sites and clients wishing to integrate Lloyd’s List Intelligence data into their own enterprise. In particular he designs and builds systems to correlate AIS reports with the data from maritime registers and class lists.

Michael Eldred has had a varied career in highly technical fields. Starting with 12.5 years of experience operating and repairing Nuclear Propulsion Plants on Submarines and Air Craft Carriers in the U.S. Navy. He continued outside of the Navy as a field engineer installing and programming GaN Compound Semi-conductor machines. For the past 8 years I have been working in the marine industry at both a Caterpillar dealership in the U.S. and the Marine headquarters for Caterpillar in Hamburg Germany. In Hamburg I am responsible for Global Product Support Marketing for Caterpillar Marine Power Systems.

Peter Stoyanov is the managing director and owner of Astra Paging Ltd. He established Astra Paging Ltd in 1997. The company has started development of software for the maritime industry in 2004 and developed the national AIS server and VTS database for Bulgarian Maritime Administration, the VTMIS monitoring systems in Bulgaria and the Netherlands, the implementation of AIS in the Naval and Coastguard surveillance systems. Astra Paging Ltd has started developping of its own AIS network and the provision of VT Explorer vessel tracking service in 2006. Since 2009 Astra Paging hosts the volunteer AIS sharing center AISHub.

Taro Yosikawa is an educated Electrical Engineer. He started his career at the General Consulate of Japan in Atlanta, USA. Since then he applied several positions in Japan and abroad with a strong focus on consulting of IT projects and on intercultural collaboration between organisations.Besides this he is strongly interessted in amateur radio and is an offically qualified radio operator. He combines this interesst with his second passion, the yachting sport. In the past years he has started to set up an network of AIS antennas in Japan and is experimenting in using AIS technology for live tracking of offshore sailing regattas.
