Michael Stein is the founder and CEO of Vesselity Maritime Analytics, a German start-up pioneering underwater ship inspections with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and artificial intelligence.

Under his leadership, the company developed specialized AI technology for precise hull fouling detection and damage assessment, enabling accurate insights into excess fuel consumption and CII impact.

In 2023, Vesselity became the first company worldwide to carry out a full class-approved in-water survey accepted by Lloyd’s Register using only ROVs instead of conventional divers. Since then, Michael has led multiple class inspections and expanded the use of Vesselity’s AI to new fields such as UXO and ghost net detection.

He combines hands-on maritime expertise with data-driven innovation to drive digitalization and sustainability in the shipping industry.
