Richard Smale is the Ship Tracking Manager at maritime data and analytics company Lloyd’s List Intelligence, responsible for delivering the ship tracking strategy across a variety of technologies. This data is used by owners, insurers and banks to ensure the safe, efficient, and lawful movement of seaborne trade.

Richard has an extensive maritime background, having served 11 years as a deck officer on Maersk container ships. After moving ashore in 2014, he has worked in marine operations and satellite technology roles, giving him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the maritime industry and how data can be used to address them.
